LO4 - Be able to finalise production materials for an original audio-visual promo idea

 LO4: Finalise Production Materials

Rough Draft

This is the first draft of my film trailer with all the shots in sequence however it is also unedited but this will soon change when I begin to add improvements such as visual effects, music and transitions. Here is the link to the first draft of my trailer:

Future Improvements

When talking about future improvements, I mean editing techniques and elements that really make a horror film trailer scary but also enticing to watch, making my audience become attracted to my product leading them to become excited for the fully release of the film causing it to gain popularity. One element that I will need to think about when making my product is the element of scary music as this is what sets the mood and helps the clips become more eerie and fearful towards my audience. I can search for free music or sounds on copyright free sights such as Freesound to make sure I am not using someone else's work without their permission within my product which will allow me to avoid getting into trouble with any legal actions.

Another element that I will have to consider when editing my video is transitions as this is what breaks up the clips to make scenes more dramatic and it also gives a break between each clips that are shown. The editing app that I will be using for creating my video is CapCut as I am very familiar with the techniques and all the different tools that are accessible to the user in order to edit and ultimately create a really good edited film. Additionally, now  that I am familiar with the different editing elements of CapCut, this means that I can edit and make the video much faster and CapCut also has its own free transitions meaning that I won't need to make my own from scratch or go out searching for them.

Additionally a final element that I will implement within my video are filters as they can make clips appear more differently towards and audience and since this is a horror trailer, I could try adding and adjusting filters to make my trailer appear more creepy and sinister towards my audience. I have also decided to use filters as some of my clips within my video have different lightings due to the time of the day they were recorded and the saturation that they were on. Another note to add is that since I'm using CapCut they also offer free non-copyright filters within their app meaning that I can use their filters without having to worry about getting into any trouble with any legal laws as they offer free ones to use.

These editing elements that I have mentioned are only the main ones that I plan to add within my video but however I will be adding elements such as text within the transitions and sound effects and much more that will appear within my film trailer.

LO3: Produce Production Materials

Equipment & Images:

One piece of equipment that I have used to create my video is a Cannon camera as this will capture the footage I need and allow me to record in a professional manner. Here I am adjusting the lens within my camera so that my actor is in focus and that I have found a suitable camera angle that suits my genre of the promotion video. One thing that was good about this is that I could easily focus the lens onto my actor, allowing my footage to look clear and professional for the audience. One thing that I found difficult with using the Cannon Camera is by adjusting the settings so that the footage quality is still clear and bright so that my footage could avoid being ruined by the darkness of the natural lighting. However, I could tackle this later when I upload my footage and begin to edit it within my chosen editing software, I can adjust the brightness of the footage and change it so that the footage has the right balance of light so that you can clearly see the actors but not too bright that it ruins that element of darkness within my horror genre. Overall, I found the Cannon Camera useful when recording my footage as the quality came out really well and I managed to get lots of shots.

Additionally, another piece of equipment that I have used to record my video is my iPhone as during the production phase me filming my video, the setting was getting quite dark and the camera wasn't picking up the correct brightness that I was hoping for. Due to this I had to switch mid way through recording to my iPhone as my phone quality for recording was much better for the circumstances and challenges I was facing during filming.  While recording on my iPhone I still had a range of accessible features such as an easily adjusted zoom feature that I could use for up close shots. Additionally, the iPhone has better camera quality as the frame rate can go up to 60fps and can also have 4K resolution, meaning that I could still get some really good quality footage while also filming on my phone. There wasn't much to do for the setting up of the iPhone being used as the main equipment for gathering footage, I just had to access the camera app on my iPhone and then swipe until I was on the option of 'Video', everything else such as getting different shot types was me either crouching or leaning down so that I could get the correct angle for my video.

Overall these were the only pieces equipment I used to capture the footage to help create my video as I was limited with equipment at the time and  I wanted to capture as much footage as I could before my actors became busy again. So overall the two pieces of equipment that I have used to get the footage for my trailer is my iPhone and a Cannon Camera.

How Have Legal & Ethical Laws Been Implanted?

When capturing footage for my product, I needed to make sure that I have followed my Legal and Ethical Constraints within my report in LO2.

One way that I have followed is the Copyright Law as this act claims that I must use footage that I have taken in order to create my short trailer to avoid any legal action being taken caused by stealing assets and footage from other creators. I have followed this legal constraint by making sure that all the footage captured within the trailer is originally taken by me as seen with the images above which proves that I haven't stolen any footage and I have gone out with a camera and filmed actors that have followed my story. I will also need to continue with this law throughout the actual creation of my trailer as I will be adding more assets and features within it.

Another constraint that I have followed within my Legal and Ethical report is Liability and Slander ethical issue which means that I have to have made sure that when capturing my footage for my product, I have not made anyone look bad or damaged their reputation in any way as this can get me and my product in trouble. I have avoided doing this when gaining my footage by making sure that the characters that I have created for each of my actors is original and follow the traditional ways of how a group of friends are within a horror film. I have also made sure when getting my footage that they don't include any harmful statements or false news about anyone in and outside this project as this it would be slander and untrue towards another person and could therefore get my work into trouble and I maybe forced to have it taken down. Additionally, as I stated in my report previously that I will not include any slanderous words within my script for my actors to read at this would make my trailer have a bad reputation and I have indeed followed through with my footage not capturing any slanderous words coming from my actors and making sure that my actors stick to the script to make this words more avoidable when recording.

The final law that I have implanted while recording it to make sure my footage is suitable for my aimed target audience for ages 15 and above due to some of the horror elements such as blood and demonic entities. However, when capturing my footage, I have made sure that they don't contain any explicit actions or words, any offensive words that may offend a specific group of people and to make sure that it does not contain much gore other than blood. This helps my product pass the guidelines of the BBFC and makes sure that my product reaches and attracts the correct target audience without making them dislike my product by including elements that may not suit the age rating.

Codes & Conventions While Filming

Since my trailer will be about a horror film, I will have needed to follow or be inspired by the traditional codes and conventions of a horror film, such as jump scares and eerie lead ups to scares etc. Well I have followed these when collecting my footage, as within my footage I have captured a group of teens who are the main group for this film, walking through the woods while the sun is dropping. This is traditional when it comes to the codes and conventions within horror films as the footage includes a group of teens, which is traditional with horror films and they are in the woods which already creates that eerie setting due to the trees seeming like they lead on forever and it is easily to get lost within them, which is the same feeling viewers get when seeing other film trailers with the traditional lost in the woods film, fitting with the codes and conventions of a horror film.

Another way that I have followed the codes and conventions when collecting footage for my horror trailer is having a scene where a character is running away from something or someone. This is traditional as we see these kinds of scenes within horror films and trailers themselves as these indicate to a threat opposing our characters and when we see them running it makes us wonder what or who they are running from, creating that mystery when people view those products.  I have been inspired by other products that include this code and convention within their horror film product that I have implemented it within mine to hopefully capture that traditional feeling of mystery and fear within my trailer.

One last code and convention that I have included when capturing my footage is having the group of teens / characters being split up when having to survive whatever is lurking in the woods. I have done this as it is traditional within horror films for characters to separate from groups and be on their own as it makes the audience worry for the character who is alone and makes them also think about what could be lurking within the shadows while they are alone, but it ultimately also creates fear within the audience further as we worry for the character and that helps us feel the fear the characters are feeling. I have seen these traditional codes and conventions being used within already existing products such as movies and trailers and I have tried to add the same idea within my footage as it would indeed follow the codes and conventions of a horror film of isolation but it would furthermore help create the feeling of fear within my target audience and them thinking of what comes next.

Comparison - Storyboard To Footage

When capturing my footage for my film trailer, I partially followed my plans made from my storyboard for scenes but when actually getting to the location and filming I decided to add some scenes that weren't in the originally planned and I have also decided to discard some scenes that I thought were maybe unnecessary or were a bit difficult to film due to the location of where everything was taken.  For example, for the first couple of scenes within my storyboard, I wanted the main character to do some research on the urban legend so that it could show how the group ended up within the woods in the first place (Shot 1 & 2 on Storyboard), however this footage was not captured due to the location we were in and my actors being busy, causing this scene to be scrapped from the trailer.  Another scene that I have decided to scrap was the journey into to the forest (Shot 3 on Storyboard), as on the storyboard that I wanted a scene where my characters were on the train going to the forest to help the anticipation build up within the audience for them to think how does this go all wrong, however I decided to get rid of this due to the footage being imperfect to use within the trailer due to it being out of focus and not creating the right feeling I wanted for the scene. Fundamentally, I wish I could've added this scene within my actual trailer but it just didn't look right and stood out from the rest of the clips, if I ever wanted to create a scene like that again in the future I will need to make sure that I have the camera focused this time and to make sure that my footage creates that build up that I wanted originally.

On the other hand, there are scenes that I have captured based upon the planning of the storyboard and an example oft this is the shot of when the group is all walking together within the forest (Shot 5 on Storyboard). I decided that I wanted to capture this footage no matter what as it shows the calm before the storm, and how this is the groups last glance of innocence and freedom before entering the woods, so I managed to capture this quite well. I believe that planning this scene before it was done was effective as it allowed me to gain some essential scenes that I definitely knew I wanted to capture for my product as it has meaning with it and it shows the cast of characters all together but it also presents build up to what is going to happen next. Additionally, another scene that I have followed due to the planning of my Storyboard is the chase scene (Shot 12 on Storyboard) as again I thought this was a crucial element to add within my horror trailer and traditional / conventional horror movies trailers always have someone running from something or they are being chased. I followed my planning of the story board, making sure that my character / actor is running within the woods within having natural lighting and that the shot it wide enough to show their whole body or the top half of their body, however, I have changed this scene slightly so that instead of the camera being faced to the actors left, the camera is placed behind them so that we can see them drop the stick that they picked up within the previous scene and run away from it, which gives the audience that feeling of fear and mystery as they don't see whatever made the character run away but they know that something sinister is lurking. Finally, another scene that I have decided to follow due to the planning of my story board is the scene where one of the characters try to phone the police due to the strange entity lurking within the woods with them (Shot 13 on Storyboard). Within this scene I have kept the whole concept of 'calling for help' but I have instead changed the shot type to an extreme close up when filming as I wanted to capture the fear within my characters eyes and the panic that they are experiencing and additionally, I wanted to make it so that the audience wouldn't be able to see the 'entity' as the camera angle makes it look as if the audience is hiding behind the tree trying to call for help with the character, building up more fear and anxiety within my audience and it helps them be more involved within the story as they experience these emotions. I overall wanted to make sure that when capturing footage like this that even though we didn't have an actual actor play the 'entity', I wanted the feeling of it to be real and to make sure that the audience doesn't actually see the creature as it keeps it suspenseful and an overall surprise for the audience when they watch it.

Furthermore, I have also added new scenes that were not originally planned within the Storyboard and an example of this is when recording my footage for the trailer, I got some random shots of the woods and the trees (angles, colours, patterns etc) to help create the emphasis of the woods having an eerie and fearful atmosphere and give a feeling to the audience that makes them feel that something isn't right. I did these with a mix of shot types, such as close ups of branches and gaps within trees with  long shots of the patterns of branches and trees above us and long shots of the sunset within the maze of trees. I am overall glad I have included these scenes within capturing footage for my trailer as these clips can create the feeling of isolation within the woods but it can also help extend the time of how long my trailer with adding emphasis of fear within the audience within the small clips of it being shown. Another scene which I have decided to collect when gathering my footage that wasn't originally planned when creating my Storyboard is an extended scene of Shot 6 as after the two characters are done talking together on the bench, they decide to hold hands to comfort each other as a way to show togetherness as a group and to show more of the relations between the characters. I believe that I wanted to add this scene because it can make audiences connect with the characters more as we will be able to see relationships within the trailer and it gives an insight to the audience about what type of people these characters are that I have created. This also can relate to a few people within my audience as they may need to depend on other people to comfort them during uneasy and struggling situations making my audience relating and creating ideal selves within my trailer, allowing more people to become interested in it which will lead them to watching it. To capture this shot, I made the shot type a close up as the shot only contains the two characters hands interlocked which signifies comfort and security and the natural lighting helped highlight the hands which will help this scene stand out as it will get the audience to notice the feeling of togetherness better.

Comparison - Mindmap

Since I have now taken the shots and clips needed for my promotional video, I will now be comparing if I have followed the same idea for my clips and overall promotional trailer. Here is a screenshot of my Mindmap:

When taking my clips and short videos for my trailer, I did go with the idea of creating a horror trailer about friends getting lost within the woods but however I changed some aspects that are seen on this Mindmap.

Once aspect that I decided to change when I was filming the video was the aspect of using a ring as a prop within my trailer as the original idea was for the group of friends to enter the woods and discover a cursed ring that once disturbed it would unleash a killer or guardian after the group of teens and they would have to escape and survive against what was hunting them. I decided to change this as I didn't think that a ring would be a suitable prop to use for a horror trailer and I couldn't find some type of ring object to use as a prop for my short trailer. Instead, I changed the idea of having the group of friends find cursed and disturbing drawings instead as I believe fits more with the genre of horror and the paper itself can hold disturbing things that may scare the audience. The idea of the paper being cursed was an inspiration from already existing media such as 'Slender Man' as this product fits within the horror genre so therefore I wanted to use this inspiration within my trailer so that it could create the same horror effect.

Another idea that I decided to change within my trailer was the idea of using blood for my trailer as I originally wanted to include this element due to blood typically fitting with the codes and conventions of a horror film /  trailer. However, I decided to remove this idea of blood entirely as I wasn't sure where to get this prop and I didn't ask my actors to bring spare clothing that they didn't mind ruining for the use of blood as I didn't want them to ruin their actual clothes. However if I were to create this project again and wanted to use the idea of fake blood within my trailer, I would make sure to have the sufficient funds to purchase the fake blood and I would also sent a message out to my actors asking if they would be okay with the idea of fake blood being used which would then allow them to bring spare clothes or I could provide the clothing.

Another idea that I have changed for my horror trailer idea was the element of me shooting the trailer on a grey, foggy day to create a more horror tone within my trailer as fog is usually used to create mystery and fear so this idea would have fit with the codes and conventions well. However, I changed this idea last minute due to when shooting my trailer, the sky and the woods were not foggy and instead it was clear while the sun was setting however having the sun set was also an original idea that I had just in case the grey skies and fog didn't happen. I believe that the sun setting within my promotional video still fits within the codes and conditions of my trailer as it creates the idea of darkness spreading over the forest and works well with all of the trees within my shots as it creates that feeling of being lost or that someone could be lurking within the woods and watching the group in the darkness, which follows codes and conditions of the horror genre.

Have I Followed My Risk Assessments?

When obtaining my footage for my movie trailer, I had to consider my risk assessments as they were plans for if things happened which could pause the continuation of my product. I kept a digital version of my risk assessment within my phone so that if anything were to happen I could swiftly access the document within one of my saved files and read upon what I should do if one of my risks were to happen during filming.

One of the risks that I had to consider while filming is the risk of one of my actors or myself tripping and falling during the running scenes of the trailer:

This is a screenshot of what I had prepared for if one of  my actors were to trip and fall which would cause them to injure themselves during the production and gathering of footage. Fundamentally, I had to follow this assessment as one of my actors did injure themselves while running on an uneven surface causing them to injure themselves to pause on getting my footage to make sure that they were seen to and they were okay to continue. As stated within the consequences section, my actor did get a grazed knee due to the uneven surfaces within my recording location (the woods) but having this risk assessment meant that they were seen to much quickly as I had already planned for what I was going to do if this were to ever happen, which means that we would have to get first aid to ensure that the wound wouldn't worsen during filming. Even though this injury still happened, the Pre - Emptive was still followed as stated that I made sure that where the my actor was running, the pathway was clear so that there were no sticks, large branches or rocks that could cause more of an serious injury to on of my actors. Ultimately, following this risk assessment helped me prepare for the scene to make sure that there were no obstacles in the way but it also ensured me of a swift passage of how to deal with this situation if it were ever to happen.

The Second Risk that I didn't have to really consider but I still wanted to mention anyway was the risk of the weather tampering with the equipment and ruining the scene overall.

This is a screenshot of what I had documented for the risk of it raining during the recording session as it could ruin the equipment such as the cameras and props which meant that it would prevent me from gathering footage and it would also cost me to replace the equipment that have been damaged. However like I have said within the report that it would be a 5/10 chance due to it being cold and wet weather that it could possibly rain but it also depended on the day too but I have avoided having to deal with this risk at all due to me checking the weather beforehand, ultimately dodging this risk overall and needing to consider it to there's not much to write about for this. However, I did bring an umbrella and some coverings just in case the weather app was wrong and it did end up raining, which would've prevented equipment from getting wet. But ultimately as I have stated, this risk did not need to be considered as it did not rain the day of recording.

The Third Risk I didn't have to consider that much but it was still a worry when trying to sort a day for when filming can happen is making sure that my actors are not sick or ill the day of shooting.

This is a screenshot of what I had prepared for the action of my actors becoming ill when shooting and recording my video as it would slow down the process of actually getting my footage and if multiple actors are ill at the same then I would have to push back the date of recording which ultimately makes the process of making and creating my video much slower, and it prevents me from getting things done in time for deadlines. However, when getting the footage for my video, non of my actors were ill in the day of shooting so therefore this risk did not need to be considered as much as the others due to them being and feeling perfectly fine to film on that day. Even though I didn't have to consider this risk, it was still a worry for me while filming just in case the random inconvenience occurs that one of my actors do get ill while in the middle of recording but I was prepared for this as stated that I would contact my group of actors (Making sure they feel well before recording)  to ensure that they are all ready to give it their all while acting for my media product. Additionally, I had even prepared another date just in case one of my actors were ill on the original day of shooting so that once everyone was feeling well, we could swiftly go and record on the second planned day instead of having to mess around planning for another day. Ultimately, I would have followed this risk if it had played out that my actors were ill, but on recording day nobody was ill so therefore I did not have to consider this risk when filming but the proof of my risk assessment above shows how I would've dealt with this and how I would've followed the risk if it had to be considered.

The last risk that I had to consider and follow was the risk of equipment failing due to low battery life as this would mean that when gathering footage I wouldn't be fully finished and I would have to plan another day of filming meaning that things within my production schedule gets pushed back.

This is a screenshot of what I have prepared for the risk of my equipment failing during the time of recording as this would make sure that if something were to happen with the equipment then I would have a swift solution for what to do, meaning it saves time and I have a well prepared plan ready. Overall I did need to consider and follow this risk assessment as during the filming of my video, the camera was getting low on battery and due to the natural lighting of the woods, the camera wasn't picking up most of the footage and if it was it was making the footage look really dark and hard to see than it was to see within real life. Within the risk assessment above, I have detailed that the risk being a very bad thing to happen is High as it means having to stop filming which wastes recording time and it means thinking of another solution, which also wastes time but the risk assessment prevents this. I continued to follow the risk assessment as the day before filming I made sure that the battery was fully charged meaning that the camera would have a good battery life for recording and I also tested the camera by taking small videos and pictures to test out the quality was good. However, I failed to follow the rest of the risk assessment as it says that I should have brough spare batteries and chargers with me in case this happens and I did not do this as I thought that the camera life was good enough for my session of recording but I was wrong. Instead of following the risk assessment, I had to think of a solution to my camera dying and the quality being poor which wastes time but I swiftly thought of the idea of getting my phone out and carry on recording the last scenes I need for my life so that's what I did. Ultimately, I did partially follow this risk assessment when considering that I made sure all the equipment was fully charged and making sure that nothing was wrong with the quality but when failed when I planned out bringing spare chargers and chargers just in case something like that happened but I came up with the resolution to record on my phone instead, managing to still get the footage I needed in order to create my trailer.

Location And Permission

The location in which I will be filming in is the Peak District. Since this is a public place for people to enter, I will not need to get permissions to go and film there. However, I will do a risk assessment to outline the hazards that could occur while I am filming my trailer.

Treatment

Legal and Ethical

To make sure that my product follows the laws of legal while also following the beliefs of keeping my product ethical too, there are a set of rules and laws that I must follow in order to not offend anyone with the features that are included within my film and to prevent my product engaging with the law by following their laws put in place.

Legal

The first legal law that I must follow in order to make my product suitable towards the law is the Copyright Law. The copyright law ensures that a creator has legal right to their original work and if people try to steal their original work then they can get in trouble with the law. To prevent this, I will need to make sure that any images or music that I use within my movie trailer is copyright free by researching websites that have free music to use. Another way that I can prevent this law from happening is to ask the original creator for permission to use their work within my video. For example, if I wanted to use an image or music that has been copyrighted, I will need to contact the original creator for permission in order to use their assets. If they say yes then I will be able to use their assets within my film trailer (However I may need to pay a sum of money to use) but if they say no then I will need to look for a different asset to use, preferably one that isn't copyrighted. However, if I don't follow this law, then I could be in danger of getting troubled within the law and having to pay a sum of money. I will need to ensure within the future that I either ask to use work created by someone else or I will need to look for non copyrighted assets to use within my trailer.  The next law that I must consider when making my film trailer is the Intellectual Property Act. This footage and this overall movie belongs to me as I have created it and edited and spent time editing. Overall this act ensures that my work is protected by people trying to use it without permission, if they wish to use any assets from my product that have been created by me, they will be breaking the law which can cause them to pay a sum of money. However, this act also protects everyone else's work, preventing me from using their work without permission, leading me to have to ask permission. Fundamentally, the Intellectual Property Act protects my work from being stolen from others while the Copyright Law serves as a punishment if I don't ask permission to use others assets. A final law that I must follow in order to create my product is the Data Protection Act. This act ensures that people included within my product will have their privacy secure and supports the idea that their data will be secure. I will do this by locking up their files so that they are secure and safe and then when we are done filming I will shred the contracts and papers so that nobody can find anyones data. This ensures that the actors data who are included within my film are protected from data stealers and ensures that nothing gets stolen and there is no overall data breach. I have also done a consent form so that my actors are aware that the film will be distributed on different platforms that will be seen by the public.

Ethical

However, my product must follow ethical guidelines to ensure that my product doesn't offend any of my target audience. One ethical rule that I need to consider is 'Liability and Slander'. I need to make sure that I don't portray any kind of slanderous acts within my trailer that could damage peoples reputations as this will give my product a bad reputation which will lead to people not watching it, spreading hate about my product and I ultimately won't gain any money from it. To make sure that this doesn't happen, I will need to ensure that I do not include any slanderous words within my script for my cast to read as this will prevent slander from appearing within my video and ultimately it won't damage the reputation of my product. However, liability will cause me to be responsible for the actions of slander within my product which will give me a bad image and reputation. To ultimately prevent all of this from happening, I must not include any phrases or sentences that slander anyone or anything and decline any ideas of adding any deformation into my product whatsoever. Another ethical rule that I must follow is making sure that my product is age appropriate to the age group that I am targeting to. This means that because I am making a horror film trailer, it must be suitable for ages of 15 and above as the horror genre includes graphics and elements such as blood, gore, and death with monsters. People below the age of my target audience will not acknowledge that this product isn't real which could lead to complains from parents. To ensure that this doesn't happen, I will include elements of the normal stereotypical elements such as blood and death as I want to target my product to an older target audience that realise that the elements within my film trailer are not real. This will allow BBFC to give my trailer a suitable age rating so that people can look at this and thinks about whether this is suitable for them to watch or not.

Issues With Location

On the topic of discussing the issues of my chosen location to film, my location will not allow me to break any laws as I will be filming in the Peak District so because this is a public park I will not be able to break the law by trespassing. I also will not need permission (release and consent form) to film here as it is a public park however I will be mindful to not get any pedestrians within my filming as they have not given me permission to film them and it wouldn't fit with the idea of my film as the group of friends are meant to be in the woods alone so having people within the background wouldn't be ideal. However, discussing some environmental issues, the Peak District contains many hazards that can cause casualties and injuries to the equipment used to film my video as well as the actors. My risk assessment contains some of those hazards that how much they would affect the production on my product, however within the risk assessments their are also solutions to help prevent these things from happening or to think of another solution to prevent me from losing time on production. For example, within my risk assessment there is a contingency of tripping while running, since the woods is quite uneven and not a flat surface, the chances of my actors tripping while running is increased. However, if this does happen, the risk assessment allows me to become more prepared for this sort of situation which is why on the risk assessment it says that I will respond to this by first aid kit and bandages.

LO1 - Understanding the Purpose of Audio Visual Promos

 Music Video:

Ariana Grande - we can't be friends (wait for your love) (official music video)

P1: What type of promotional video is it?

This type of promotional video is a music video to promote a song and the album itself 'eternal sunshine' by Ariana Grande. The type of genre of is a synth-pop and EDM as it follows a woman called 'Peaches' who has her memory wiped and goes through a series of memories of her past relationship with her past partner, living through them one last time before they are gone forever. This music video is inspired and based on the 2004 movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

P1: What is the purpose of this music video?

The purpose of this music video is to promote the Eternal Sunshine album and promote one of the lead singles on the album 'we can't be friends (wait for your love)' to help the album sell more so that the artist can gain more money. The target audience for this music video is aimed at R&B and Pop fans as well as fans of the famous musical artist Ariana Grande but it is open to more diverse audiences as well. I would say that the specific target audience age for this music video is aimed at ages between 15 - 30 due to this music video being released and shown on YouTube and being advertised on TikTok and on her personal Instagram account. Additionally, this music video shows the aspect of relationships being broken and how the development of being separated from that person is like which can be related to young audiences around 15 - 24 as these are the types of ages that go through these types of situations. Furthermore, this music video also attracts audiences of older ages as they will understand the deeper themes of emotional closure and that idea of letting go of memories that are most dearest to us. However, you could also that another reason why this music video attracts an older audience is due to this music video having references to the film 'Eternal Sunshine of The Spotless Mind' which came out in 2004, making this music video attracted to the audience type that love this film. This music video fits the R&B music genre through the emotional themes and deep, soulful vocals that takes us on that journey of love, heartbreak and relationships which can be relatable to anyone who's been through these feelings and experiences which makes this music video a more beautiful piece of art as it can relate to many of its viewers. A technique that is displayed in this music video is the editing skills of flashes to different scenes to depict the different memories that the protagonist is going through. The editing here is used effectively, for example as we see our protagonist going further into her memories, her love interest slowly starts to disappear from them, showing to use that the protagonist is slowly losing her memory of her past lover. This promotional video stands out to other contenders as it guides the viewers through a story and partially has links to the artists' life which makes the song and the music itself to must more special as it holds that deeper meaning that captures the audiences attention and can capture that publicity that is needed to promote this music video further.

M1: Different Approaches Used

Setting: The overall setting of the 'We Can't Be Friends' music video changes into various locations as the character reflects on their different nostalgic memories of their past lover. For example, some of the settings that the character 'Peaches' go through play a crucial role in covering her feelings in this situation, especially when we can see her past lover disappear from some of the shots, representing her possible isolation and conflict that she is experiencing. However the way that he is seen disappearing from the shots also convey that she is slowly forgetting him as she goes through this procedure. Additionally, all of these shots seem to give a warm tone which suggest that these are happy memories that she is experiencing and they are appearing to be comforting to her but then these can also contrast with the gloomy lit aesthetic in some shots like for example, in the shot where they are both in the bed with a blue and cold lighting, this shows the sadness within the memories she is experiencing too which further depicts the conflict. Additionally, we can talk about the transition to the different settings as the music video uses flashes and different kinds of editing to make it seem like all these different setting that are appearing in her her are flashes of distant memories, indicating that they are perhaps buried deep and she doesn't want to remember all the good times she had with her ex over as she wants to be able t move on without the intense sadness that it comes with.

Lighting: The way the lighting is used in this music video is very smart as it uses a lot of focus and depth of field which helps guides the viewers attention and make them seem certain elements within the video. You can see this when we can see the main character 'Peaches' crying from the loss of her memories, the focus is on her and the background is burry which depicts that the editors want 'Peaches' the main centre of attention of when she is crying to said more sadness into the video to evoke more emotions within our audience. Additionally, the blurry background could represent confusion as our main character is experiencing conflict with choosing whether to lose her memories or not, adding a more emotional tone within the video. Furthermore another scene we can scene is where the entire setting goes to black and its just our main character in a dim light, showing her isolation and also her forgetfulness which links to the movie that this music video is based on.

Costumes and Makeup: Within this music video the costume and make up play a very important role as they convey the different memories she experiences and the different emotions that she may express through each one. In my opinion i would say that each outfit holds different emotions that contribute to this music video and the overall aesthetic. Some of the outfits she wears within the music video can only be described as stylish, for example in the beginning of the music video she appears to be wearing a fur coat with a v-cut top and a skirt. This outfit can be seen to represent the signature fashion sense within the music video. Another example of her outfits conveying some kind of emotion is when we see her and her love interest sat on a table with a cake right in front of them. Here we see Ariana wearing a soft, pink pastel dress with silky puffy sleeves, indicating that the main emotion expressed within this scene is love and pink is symbolic to that feeling. The silky-ness of the dress can indicate that this memory is a comfortable and loving memory she still hold as silk can be seen as a quite soft and comforting material. Moving onto the makeup, when Ariana first enters the clinic we can see that she has a white petal make up design upon her left eye, indicating purity and innocence. This design could also be symbolic to the idea of a pure and long lasting relationship which highlights the emotional struggle with her romantic feelings towards her ex partner.

Character Positions within: The staging in this music video is very significant as they can be seen to convey the feelings a that Ariana's Character is going through but also the emotion pain and conflict that he has with herself and her ex partner. An example of this is when we see both of them making snow angels. We see them in a very happy and loving state at the beginning. This shows us how strong of a bond and closeness their loving relationship was as they can be comfortable enough around each other to do childish things such as the snow angels. On the other hand, those few seconds of love are interrupted shortly when the ex partner disappears leaving the character 'Peaches' all alone no longer smiling or being happy. This juxtaposes what we have just seen as the symbolic event of him disappearing represents how the character she is playing is losing her memories and any thought of him. Furthermore, this can also represent that tone of melancholy as we see that the character she plays seems to be isolated with each memory, evoking an upsetting emotion within its viewers as we see that longing and separation.

Composition: The composition of this music video really shows off a lot of character representation through their emotions and interactions. For example, there is a shot where both characters are on a bed, the ex partner being in the bed and turned away so he is not looking at the main character 'Peaches' and she is sat on the edge of the bed looking away but sometimes glancing at the ex partner. The shot within this scene conveys to us that there has been some sort of disagreement between the two which causes this tension to occur. The shot conveys a close up of the partners face slightly blurred as the camera shot is focused on Ariana singing while glancing at his back, indicating that feeling of separation and  see Ariana more distant to the camera giving that sense that she feels alone and ignored. In another shot we see that the camera pans out and gives a close up of the main character as she cries while looking at the camera. This composition helps make these emotions more intimate with the viewers and deeply connect with them on a personal level which makes this product different from others as it has deep meanings and connections with real life situations.

This music video takes its audience through an emotional story based on the film 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' in which a the protagonist gets his memory of his ex lover erased to relieve him from the grief of the depression he is faced with. During the process we see the protagonist relive the memories with his past lover and then our protagonist suddenly realizes that he doesn't want to forget all the greatest memories he had with his lover. This is shown in the music video where the woman 'Peaches' goes through the exact same procedure and visits the memories of the love interest in the promotional video. A unique take on this video music video is that it has a very warm and comforting light that further adds to the effect of love and how the loving memories we share with someone can be very comforting and reassuring and this leads the audience to feel this exact feeling. The reason why this music video shows the protagonist going through these memories is to help visualize the character 'Peaches' to the audience and for them feel like they are 'Peaches' in this music video as this situation can be very relatable to many people and this promotional video might help people deal with the struggle of a similar situation like this.

Game:

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom - Official Trailer #3

P1: What type of promotional video is it?

This type of promotional video is a trailer for a game belonging to The Legend of Zelda series which was created by the video game company, Nintendo. This game fits into the genre of an open world, action packed adventure game because it contains elements such as combat, exploration and most importantly, storytelling.

P1: What is the purpose of this promotional video?

The purpose of this trailer is to encourage and convince people to buy the new release to the Zelda series, Tears of the Kingdom so that the company can gain money from their product. They succeed in this because they make this game seem exciting with their gripping story-telling and breath taking graphics that make this product really special. The target audience for this game is aimed at 12-30 but can appeal to an older audience as it follows a game series that has been around for decades. This trailer is also aimed at people who enjoy playing video games, particularly open world fantasy games, and strong lovers of The Legend of Zelda series. This trailer fits the genre of action-adventure and fantasy because it shows the protagonist exploring a vast open world filled with enticing and various quests to complete as well as the battles and monsters that the player will have to fight to proceed forward into the game. The camera work within this promotional video is used strategically as it shows the vast open lands and regions as well as the close up of characters faces to show their importance within the story and proving to the audience that exploration is a key thing within this product. Additionally, the use of the soundtrack within this trailer is what really makes this product beautiful as it helps the viewers get guided through the story, but further into the trailer, the music begins to get intense which gives viewers that rush of excitement as they begin to feel like they are the protagonist themselves, filling them with adrenaline and excitement as they play this game.

The difference between this promotional video and its competitors in the gaming industry is that the way of how this trailer is portrayed shows just how in depth the story really is compared to other story games with the beautiful sounding music, stunning visuals and immersive combat that really puts you in the shoes the protagonist. In other open world trailers, they can include good story-telling gameplay but this trailer makes it so much more impactful with its immersive and intense soundtrack that makes you feel like you are truly the hero in this game and how the rhythm and tempo changes depending on what scene they are showing from the story, showing each characters meaning and effectiveness they will have in the story when the player begins their adventure. For example, during the scene where the character Zelda is holding the sword, the music turns soft and comforting, showing the audience that this character is a person of trust where as in the scene where the antagonist shows up, Ganondorf, the soundtrack turns rough and destructive, emphasizing to the audience that this character is a person with incredible power and appears to be threatening.

M1: Different Approaches Used

Setting: Within this trailer we see a showcase of a variety of biomes that give the audience the appeal to explore all the new content there is within the new open world sequel. For example if we talk about the new introduction of the Sky Islands, we can say that they are the most striking feature within this trailer as they add a new unique setting for players to explore and to look at the visually appealing biome that it is. The cause of this new area of exploration allows the players to play around with the new mechanics that have been showcased within each trailer as it gives them the creativity of how to traverse to these different islands. These floating islands also juxtapose what we have seen in the previous game as they create wonder and mystery for the players and it gives them that inviting feeling to come and explore each of the islands unique designs. Another example we can mention is the new ancient ruins and structures such as the mystical shrines and the stone structures that provide more hints to the on going lore and history about the open world of 'Hyrule'. The use of these new ancient structures and ruins suggest that there are hidden stories for the player to uncover to truly understand the narration fully.

Lighting: One thing that we can see used in this trailer throughout is the natural lighting and how it helps create this realism such as the bright scenes with the help of daylight that helps showcase how vibrant the world is which makes people want to explore it more as it looks visually beautiful. An example of this is when the camera pans over the open field with the main character 'Link' walking through the open plains and we can see the sunlight shine upon the grass and the hills, enhancing its effect of beauty to the audience, creating that feeling of awe within the audience. The natural light of this world makes the vibrancy more noticeable and evokes that feeling of adventure and exploration which further hypes up the target audience to play in this expansive world. This links with the genre of the product as it is supposed to be an open world exploration action game where players can see the beauty of the land of Hyrule thanks to the addition of natural lighting.

Costumes and Props: The character costumes within this trailer shows the audience just what time period that this game is set to be in which is a medieval period as the characters within have swords and capes with horses. One of the characters we can really dive into is the main character himself 'Link'. Links costume seems to be a more modernized version of his classic outfit within the previous game, giving him belt buckles and more leather chest pieces that somewhat seem like little bits of armour for more protection. The colour pallet of his outfit gives of a light baby blue colour with the darkish brown for the leather and the cream trousers with brown boots and a black cape. This colour pallet immediately tells the audience that Link is an important character within the game as he has more detail and colour compared to the random villagers and soldiers within the game. We can also see that he has a sword and shield upon his back, indicating that he is a fearless warrior that is respected by many. However if we look at a different characters design such as Princess Zelda, we can see the difference in how her outfit makes her look more royal and highly status as a princess. In some scenes her one of her costumes features fabrics of blue and white which could represent wisdom a purity which links to her character as she is known as the 'Sage of Light'. However the outfit she mainly wears is a white dress with ancient head pieces and designs, showing to the audience her royal status while also suggesting her strength an determination. We can also see that her hair has changed from the previous game, her hair now being short with two braids connecting at the back, possibly representing to the players of the fresh start she wants after the events of the previous game.

Character Positions within: Within this media product we can see that each character has their own stance and positions that represent what kind of characters they are and what their beliefs are. If we go back to the main character 'Link', we can see that he believes to be a hero and devoted knight as his poses and positions within the trailer indicate action and readiness. For example, when 'Link' is shown preparing this sword and bow his stance is wide and determined showing off his fearless confidence as one of 'Hyrule's' protector. On the other hand if we look at the main villain Ganondorf and his positions and stances, he shows his powerful and obnoxious intentions through the body language and how the game positions him. For example, the game positions him under a red and gloomy light that he caused with his arms and legs spread with 'red gloom' emitting off of his body. This position instantly suggests his evil dominancy and authority which links with his role of being the main antagonist of the game. Additionally, his positioning within the some frames makes him the focal point which gives the audience that feeling of a threatening and intimidating aura in which he holds.

Composition: The framing and composition in this trailer is crucial as it gives mystery to the new characters that will be introduced within the game and can also indicate each characters intentions. For example if we were to talk about Ganondorf again, there is a scene where he is looking into the camera while yelling because of all the power he has inherited. In this scene the camera had decided to do a close up on Ganondorf's face which allows him to be the main focus of this shot. This shot indicates to the target audience his importance to the story and just how much of a threat he opposes towards the main characters. However, in another example we can see the characters 'Princess Zelda' and 'Rauru' having a conversation with 'Rauru's' hand being placed upon 'Zelda's' shoulder. In this shot it appears to be an over the shoulder shot as the camera is behind Zelda and facing this new character who's face isn't in frame. This indicates mystery within the trailer as it leaves the target audience wondering who this mystery character is. This can also link to Rauru's importance to the narrative as the trailer makes him appear to be secretive with his appearance and in the scene we can see him talking with Zelda which must indicate that he contributes to the story somehow. Additionally, as both of them are in this shit, Zelda is the only one to have her face shown which indicates that Rauru is a more important and higher status character than Princess Zelda which must mean he has some kind of great power awaiting within the story.

TV Show Promo:

YOU - Trailer #2 Netflix

P1: What type of promotional video is it?

This type of promotional video is a TV Show Trailer that is advertising the new upcoming series that is coming to Netflix. This trailer fits into the category of dark romance and drama as the trailer tends to keep you on the edge of your seat with its unsettling aspects.

P1: What is the purpose of this promotional video?

Fundamentally, the purpose of this promotional video is to promote and gain attention to the new and upcoming dark drama coming to Netflix, YOU Season 1. Another purpose is to entertain its viewers with a mysterious new dramatic show filled with shocking and evil intentions. Included in this trailer are aspects and content that will be featured in the upcoming episodes. The target audience for this show is aimed at people between the age of 18 - 35 as it includes mature content and graphic scenes that would not be suitable to show to a younger audience. Additionally, it is mainly aimed at people who enjoy watching dramas with that horror element within that really makes the audience watch with an uneasy feeling. This promotion fits the overall standard of a TV Show as it contains fast paced shots of different scenes within the trailer and overall it is a drama. The build up of this trailer with the scenes immediately create this ominous feeling that lurks throughout, hoping to give its viewers that chilling and eerie atmosphere as they watch. The camera shots in this trailer are mostly medium shots of the two characters in the show, Beck and Joe, immediately signifying their importance in this shows season and how they will impact how the story will play out. Furthermore, the ominous and unsettling voice over by the protagonist makes trailer even more uncomfortable for viewers to watch and listen which further adds to the eerie perspective we have for this show. Overall this trailer includes scenes from various different episodes within the season, enticing the target audience to watch the show and find out the big question as to how an innocent and loving relationship and turn into something sinister and evil.

One main difference with this promotional video compared the the ones we've already looked at is that that the overall vibe of this trailer is very intense as the audience are presented with the message of dark love and the theme of obsession and describing to the target audience just how far someone like our protagonist will go to get what they deeply desire which then leads back to that message setting up the overall key theme of suspense and unsettlement. This effective as the suspenseful tone may lead to the target audience wanting to watch the season to find out what happens. Furthermore, we could also comment on the lighting that is used throughout the trailer such as in the beginning, the overall tone is warm indicating that loving and relaxed feeling that the couple share whereas towards the end of the trailer,, the lighting shifts to a cold color, indicating towards the mystery of what happened between them.

M1-Different Approaches Used

Setting: In this trailer the Netflix Show 'YOU' takes place in the vibrant and urban setting of New York which includes settings such as apartments, parks, busy streets and the main setting of the show which is the bookstore. The reason why the bookstore is such an iconic setting within the trailer is because it is where he firsts meets the love of his life, the character 'Beck'. The bookstore can be seen as an intimate space for the main character 'Joe' as its his place of work and mainly where he interacts with his love interest. The bookstore holds a warm and inviting atmosphere which juxtaposes the more darker settings of the show. For example, we at the end of the trailer we see a quick flash of our main character who is inside this glass box type prison and he's banging on the glass in desperation but there is a dark tone within this setting. The setting gives off this ominous and dark aura as it leaves the audience wondering why there is a glass box prison to begin with and why our main character has been placed inside it.

Lighting: The lighting is significantly important within this trailer as it shows juxtaposition with the different feelings and themes within the show. For example, in the shot where Joe and Beck are sat together in the book store on their phones, there is a soft lighting indicating that this is a romantic and intimate moment between them both. This soft lighting helps the audience understand the intimacy between the characters and help them realise that they both feel that sense of love and safety when they are with each other, also showing that they both trust each other on a more deeper level. However, if we look in the scene where Beck is confronting Joe for watching her in the park, there is a cooler tone within the light which further emphasizes the tension and danger within this confrontation. This cooler, natural lighting indicates to the audience the the shock and nervousness that Joe might be dealing with in this confrontation as he has just been found out for his true nature.

Costumes: There are many different outfits that are used within this trailer to give the characters more depth and reveal to the target audience how they appear to be. For example if we zoom in on the type of clothes that the main character Joe wears, he wears casual but stylish clothes such as fitted jackets and sweaters which conveys to the audience that he maybe quite charming with his appearance and may hint to being one of the key factors on how he attracts his love interests and where his dark and ominous possessiveness begins. However, some of Joe's outfits juxtapose this theory of being charming as in one scene we can see him jogging in the park wearing full black with a cap on, indicating that something serious and dangerous is going to happen and he doesn't want people to find out he had any involvement within it. The black colour pallet within this outfit may also indicate to him wearing a disguise to cover his identity of his ominous and evil intentions, almost indicating that he doesn't want the charming Joe to have any involvement within his horrible actions so its like he takes on this alternate persona with him dressing in all black.

Positions: One thing that this trailer includes is the good placement of characters and there positions within the scene that really create that loving but ominous tone. One thing we can mention within this trailer is the distance between the characters and how they interact with each other. For example, in the first shots of the trailer, we can see Joe and Beck playing a board game together in which they are placed next to each other and bonding over the fun rules they made up for the game. In this scene they are both close to each other, symbolising that they are comfortable with both their presences as they are getting to know each other. This also signifies the feeling of love they are both sharing and how they are expressing themselves to each other. This juxtaposes later within the trailer as we begin to see Joe's dark intentions show as he begins to distance himself from Beck as he begins to stalk her constantly, allowing the audience to see Joe's true colours and see just how far he will go to keep her his. This could be seen as a lack of trust on Joe's side as he follows her constantly and making sure that she isn't doing anything that he doesn't like which then also breaks the strong bond that they have as Joe doesn't give her her space and instead holds this possessive grasp over her.

Composition: The composition within this trailer holds significant meaning as it goes further into depth about Joe's obsessive and frightening mind. There is an example of this when we get close ups of Joe's face as his voice over speaks his mind and thoughts. The close ups of his face indicate his obsession but also it allows the audience to be personal with Joe, almost as if the audience is his only way to speak of the horrible actions he will commit. This also gives us an idea of what kind of phycological state that Joe is in as we get the close ups of his face as he talks to himself. Talking to himself also may indicate to him driving himself delusional as we camera pans to him. However they may also reflect his loneliness and desperation to tell people the horrible things that he has done.

Film Trailer:

Wicked - Official Trailer 2

P1: What type of promotional video is it?

This type of promotional video is a film trailer to showcase the upcoming movie 'Wicked'. This is a movie adaptation of the Broadway show and novel version of 'Wicked' and will now be able to be watched like a film. The genre of this type of film is a musical fantasy that focuses on two main characters, Elphaba who is the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda who is the Good Witch.

P2:What is the purpose of this promotional video?

The purpose of this this promotional video is to help promote the new upcoming film so that it can sell well to earn money and that people can buy tickets to watch it on the big screens like cinemas. The Wicked trailer entices the target audience to watch the film by putting the dramatic sounds between each clip as it goes to black and revealing our two main characters and the close relationship that awaits them, leading to the viewers wanting to find out how they became such good friends and how they ended up being the two opposites of good and bad. The target audience of this film is aimed to be around 8 to 40 but it can also be aimed at fans of the infamous 'The Wizard of Oz' movie as this film is a prequel to the events taken place  in that film. Additionally, as this movie as an adaptation of a novel and musical it could also be aimed at people who enjoyed the musical in the past and want to see it come to life with the power of movie editing and people who really enjoyed the novel. The genre of this film sits in musical fantasy as we see talking animals and creatures within as well as the characters singing songs from the original show. The camerawork is effective in this trailer as for example, we get a close up shot of a witches hat and in the background there is a window with shattered glass, leading the audience to speculate that possibly something shocking has happened to the Witch of the West, leading the audience wanting to know how it led up to that situation. Furthermore, we also get some shots of our two main protagonists, Glinda and Elphaba, which indicates their closeness and how the movie will evolve around their relationship and their strong bond that they once shared. Overall the Wicked trailer is conventional because it teases people with these scenes that leave many mysteries with the audience full of questions for what will happen next and how did it happen.

The overall establishment of this trailer immediately tells its audience that it this film will be strongly revolved around its story as everyone who is working on this project want to make this seem real and similar to the musical. This media product is different to the other promotional videos we've looked at because this trailer really brings the world of Oz to the target audience and make them believe that they are in Oz themselves and that they are learning about the bond of how two different witches came to be. I believe that the overall message of this trailer is is the friendship of our two protagonists and the complexities of their good and evil identities. This movie shapes to the audience the differences between Glinda and Elphaba and how they are both opposites but it also crafts their destiny to become great friends. Furthermore, during the trailer we can see Elphaba finally placing the witches hat upon her head, which tells the audience that she has finally accepted what people describe her to be, different. Therefore this leads her on her journey to find her own identity and people who won't misjudge her for who she is.

M1: Different Approaches Used

Setting: The setting is crucial to the story of this movie as The Land of Oz is where this friendship begins to blossom. The trailer showcases the vibrant landscape that immerses the world into truly believing that they are part of this world they are listening to how the 2 main characters met.  The setting overall represents the contrast between the real world as we see the land of Oz extraordinary and full of magical adventure. An example of this is when we have our first look at our main characters in Emerald City. This location is a crucial part within the story as is appears to be a vibrant metropolis filled with grand structures and most importantly, it is home to the Wizard. This symbolises the power within Emerald City and how it is seen as a idyllic place for many people in the Land of Oz. Another example of important settings within this trailer is the Shiz University as it is where our two main characters first meet and develop this strong relationship. The setting of this university is significant as it is associated with the themes of education and growth as a person, seen within the two characters. you can also say that this setting is important as it helps establish the start of this beautiful friendship and helps start the journey of our two characters.

Lighting: There is a sense of lighting that companies each of the characters which gives the target audience that symbolic meaning to each character. In this trailer we can see that there is a lot of high contrast used to make the world look more vibrant and colourful but we also see similar lighting with the characters. For example, in the scene where Glinda is in her room, she is seen to have warm lighting which indicates her optimistic and joyful personality. This immediately presents to the audience that Glinda will have that comforting and bubbly personality which mirrors her actual nickname which is Glinda The Good Witch. However, if we look at the scene where the character Elphaba is walking down the stairs of the party, she is shown in a spotlight which shows us her importance of the growth of the identity. This spotlight scene connotates her transformation of embracing who she really is and the acceptance that she has finally found which draws the attention of the audience further.

Costumes: Costumes play a really huge role within this movie as they can represent the character development and the story telling throughout the trailer. An example of this is when we compare Elphaba's and Glinda's outfits. Elphaba's outfits consist of dark clothes such as the dress/gown that she first wears when Glinda and Elphaba have their first conversation. The darkness of Elphaba's clothes are symbolic to her being different and being know as an outsider compared to the rest of the people there and her complexity to find herself as a person. The darkness of her outfits could represent how she feels about her missing identity, she feels empty not knowing what she is truly made for. In contrast if we look at Glinda's outfits, they consist of the stereotypical girly pink bright dresses which shows off her status as a person and how she looks to be respected by many of the fellow students. The colour pink is a signature colour for Glinda as it follows her as she grows up to become Glinda the Good Witch and it represents further her bubbly personality and her cheerful traits. The pastel colour of pink could also represent the innocence of Glinda and charm as she appears to be quite a popular character for her looks and personality.

Positions: The positioning of characters within this trailer is seen as quite a special thing as it shows the relationships between the two characters and how they bond together so nicely. An example of this is when we see Elphaba and Glinda linking arms as they walk down a hallway full of flying monkey guards. This positioning and the linking of arms highlights their relationships as they are seen close together almost as if they are depending on each other for comfort and protection. This helps the audience to understand the power of their relationship and the emotional stability that they need from one another. Furthermore if we look at the scene where Elphaba and Glinda first communicate, we can see that Glinda is positioned so that she is around a crowd of people whereas if we look at Elphaba, she is positioned to where she is stood alone with the students glancing at her for being different. This shows further social status between the two characters and how Glinda and Elphaba start off as opposites that come together later on no matter their differences.

Composition: The composition has it's importance within this trailer as it helps draw attention to the specific characters and their emotions. For example, when we get close up frames of Elphaba and Glinda, specifically that scene where they are both crying as Glinda puts a cape around Elphaba,  it highlights the emotions that they feel for each other and the happy but sad facial expressions so that the audience can connect with the characters on a deeper level and we see their admiration for each other and how thankful that are to have met each other.

TV Ident:

BBC One - Hippo Ident

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X20NjqMiQyo

P1: What type of promotional video is this?

A TV Ident is a promotional video that is viewed as a short clip and shows who or which TV channel that the viewer is watching. This ident is for the BBC in order to promote the channel. The target audience for this is a mass audience so they want to make sure it is recognisable so people will remember it.

M1- Different Approaches Used

Setting: This Indent features the natural landscape of the water and the wildlife that lives within which creates this inviting and relaxing setting to the viewers as they begin to watch what's on the channel. A big aspect of this is that the setting is the ocean which adds a water element to the scene. Water can be seen as relaxing, especially with the sounds that comes from the water making this a peaceful and inviting channel to watch. The hippos also contribute to the lively atmosphere as we can see them playing around in the water, almost hinting that this channel is also fun to watch as well.

Lighting: The lighting within this TV Ident is typically really bright, allowing the vibrance of the ocean to show within the Ident and to create further that playful and relaxing vibe to the channel. Because of this lighting it helps evokes feelings within the audience such as happiness and joy so that people will continue to watch the channel and it may attract more. However this Ident also uses natural light such as the sun to give the Indent that warm tone so that it appears more welcoming and comforting towards its viewers, attracting them to want to watch more of this channel.

Positions: The way that the hippos are positioned makes them the focus within the frame as they have the central attention, especially when they form a circle with the logo for BBC One in the middle. Because of the form that the Hippos have made it makes the logo the centre of attention, almost as if the hippos are circling the logo to highlight it to show its importance or just to show the viewers that they are watching BBC One.

Composition: The composition within this TV Ident mainly focuses in the hippos at the start as we see close ups of them traversing in the water. However when the hippos come together to form a circle, the camera pans out and then we get a long shot of the hippos swimming in a circle with th logo in the middle. The technique used here could be rule of thirds as the hippos are in the places where they could draw your attention to the logo. Furthermore, the long shot of the hippos could signify how intelligent and amazing they are, almost as if the channel has the same characteristics.

LO4 - Be able to finalise production materials for an original audio-visual promo idea
